THE MOTOR RACING GAME - INTRODUCTION
The-Motor-Racing-Game | Entry Form |
Game Premise The Motor Racing Game is a “fantasy football” style game but where motor racing drivers and cars are picked each week (i.e. picks are not carried forward from week to week). Players pick drivers from any of the following series that are racing on any given weekend: F1, WRC, MotoGP, NASCAR, Indycar, WEC, USCC, and Formula e. Points are awarded based on how well the chosen drivers finish in their respective series. |
Game Rules
These rules are adapted from Patrick Wotton’s Too Much Racing Game rules.
1. Blog/FaceBook Post.
1a. | A post will be made to the blog/timeline once per week, usually around Monday. It will set out the scores to date, list the events for the coming weekend, and will invite players to submit entries for that weekend.
2. Game Entry. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2a. | Players should make their entry by submitting picks for the week, by the deadline (see 3a below), on the “entry page” at http://www.roadracetracks.com/motorracinggame.shtml.
2b. | Players must have a user-id and PIN to make an entry, which can be requested by sending an e-mail to: admin@roadracetracks.com. The user-id and PIN are player’s choice, and need only be requested once for the year (and beyond).
2c. | Players may make entries in advance of any week, and if doing so assume the responsibility that schedule changes (including mis-scheduled event listings on the entry page beyond the current week being played) may cause advance picks to be negated.
2d. | A player may submit multiple entries for a week, and entries for multiple weeks. The organizers will accept the last entry received before the deadline for a given week.
2e. | Existing players failing to submit an entry will be awarded points equal to 90% of the lowest full-entry score that week. To accommodate players who join the game late, the minimum score for games missed will be 99% of the lowest full-entry score for the first three weeks of the year, then 98% for the fourth week, and so on (decreasing by one percentage point) until week 12, after which 90% will be awarded.
3. Deadlines. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3a. | The weekly deadline is midnight GMT beginning the Friday (00:00 hours or 24:00 Thursday end) of the week contested.
3b. | If there are system issues with the entry page that prevents a player making their entry by the deadline, a comment in the blog/FaceBook page listing the entry details will be accepted if the comment timestamp is prior to the deadline (keeping in mind that the blog/FaceBook uses U.S. time which is offset versus GMT), and is later than the last entry received (if any) on the entry page. Habitual use of comments to make weekly entries will not be accepted.
4. Driver Choices. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Players make a new selection of drivers every week.
4a. | Players may only choose drivers/cars racing in the events listed on the entry page. It should be noted that the available choices on the entry page are limited as follows: F1: All drivers entered into the Australian GP at the start of the season; new drivers entering the series after Australia, will be added after their first competitive race. WRC: All drivers entered in the WRC Championship as a manufacturer team driver at the start of the Monte Carlo Rally; new drivers for a manufacturer team will be added upon being entered in a subsequent rally; privateer drivers in the WRC premier class entered in the Monte Carlo rally will be included; new privateer drivers in the WRC premier class after Monte Carlo, will be added after their first competitive race. Moto GP: All riders entered in the opening Qatar race at the start of the season; new riders entering the series after Qatar, will be added after their first competitive race. NASCAR: All drivers entered into any of the three opening Daytona races (the Clash, the Can-Am Duel, and the Daytona 500) and who finished in the top-10 in any race in the past year; other drivers will be added after their first competitive race in which they finish in the top 10. Indycar: All drivers entered in the opening round in St. Petersburg, who are declared as driving the full season (all races); other drivers will be added after their first competitive race in which they finish in the top 10. WEC: All cars entered in the LMP1 and LMP2 classes of the opening round in Belgium; other cars will be added after their first competitive race in which they finish in the top 10. USCC: All cars entered in all classes (P, GTLM, and GTD) of the Daytona 24-hour race, and who finished in the top-10 in any race in the past year (this is to ignore one-time entrants that compete only in the Daytona 24-hour race); other cars will be added after their first competitive race in which they finish in the top 10. Formula e: All drivers who have competed in one of the opening three races of the season, and are entered in the fourth race of the season (Santiago); new drivers entering the series after Santiago will be added after their first competitive race. Other drivers/cars may be inclued in any of the above series at the organizers discretion. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4b. | It is the responsibility of the players to check that the driver/car choices they pick on the entry page are actually racing. If a driver is picked who turns out not to be competing, zero points will be awarded for that pick in accordance with rule 5f (unless rule 5k applies).
4c. | Players may select up to a maximum of 10 drivers/cars.
4d. | No more than 7 of these drivers/cars may be taken from a single event; e.g. players can’t choose 8 or more F1 drivers.
4e. | There is no need to choose drivers from every event listed; e.g. if F1, Indycar, NASCAR Cup and USCC are racing, players can choose six F1 and four Indycar drivers
4f. | If there is only one event that week, only 7 drivers may be selected in total, per 4d.
4g. | In sports-car races with multiple drivers per car (e.g. at Daytona, or in the WEC/USCC), the player will pick a car and not a driver. e.g. for a USCC event a player may choose the #1 Porsche as one of their picks.
4h. | If a driver is competing in two (or more) counting events that week (e.g. a driver is competing in NASCAR and Indycar in the same weekend), players must make it clear which event(s) they are nominating for game points. If using the entry page this will be clear; if making an entry via a comment, and the series is not clarified by the player, the series for which the driver finishes lowest (i.e. has the worse result) is counted. Players can nominate the driver for all events at their choice, but of course it will count as two (or more) choices.
4i. | If a player miscounts their entry (which can only happen if making an entry via a comment), and eleven or more drivers/cars have been listed, the first ten listed will be counted.
4j. | It is up to each player to clearly identify their choices, and accept the consequences if they do not.
5. Scoring. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5a. | The points system:
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5b. | Points are scored on race position only, not qualifying position.
5c. | Sports-car races and WRC are scored by overall position and not class position.
5d. | Retired or unclassified results will count for TMRG points (e.g., a Formula One driver that is unclassified for an early retirement according to F1 rules will still count for position-points in this game.)
5e. | Drivers/cars disqualified will receive zero points.
5f. | Race non-starters will not count for points (although if a race is officially re-started and they made the first (or a previous) cancelled start, they will count for points).
5g. | WRC points will only be awarded to those drivers that finish the event.
5h. | Official results will be used unless impractical or inconsistent (e.g. the WRC official website and actual results from the rally organizers website have been known to be different). In these circumstances the results “accepted” as correct by the online mass media (e.g. Autosport.com or ESPN.com) will be used.
5i. | If a result is not declared (e.g. a race is cancelled due to a tragedy), zero-points will apply to all selections from that event.
5j. | If a race is shortened thus that full points are not awarded by the series rules, as long as a result is declared, it will count for full TMRG points.
5k. | If a driver is directly substituted after the deadline (e.g. an injured driver is replaced prior to, or during a race), then points earned by the replacement will count for the original choice.
5l. | If a driver manages to be credited for two finishing positions in a race (e.g. they start a NASCAR race in one car, retire, then substitute for another driver in a different car), then their highest finish will count only.
5m. | If a series has a double-race weekend, drivers are separately scored for each race, the scores are added together and the drivers re-ordered based on the most points for both races; this order then dictates the points to be applied to TMRG. If two or more drivers have the same points, the race 1 result is the tie-breaker.
6. Changes in Race Results
6a. | Changes to race results will be amended in the game up to the deadline of the following week. After the deadline of the following week the results from the prior week will be considered closed. This includes position changes, exclusions/disqualifications, etc.
7. Tie-Breaks. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7a. | Weekly results that tie for points will if possible be separated by count-back (see who picked the most winners, if that does not work then who picked the most second-placed picks, et cetera).
7b. | If count-back does not work as a weekly tie-breaker, it will be called a draw among players who remained from the count-back (rule 7a).
7c. | For overall position (season-long) ties including final results, players will be separated by count-back of who won the most weeks; if this does not work who had the most second-places, et cetera. In the case of shared positions on weekly results, players are credited with an average position (e.g. two players tied for second in a week will be counted as having a 2.5 place finishing position).
7d. | Should count-back not work to clarify overall position, the next tie-breaker would be highest score for an individual week, or if that is a tie, the second-highest score for a week, et cetera.
8. Other. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8a. | Organizers reserve the right to amend the rules if a situation arises that has not been accommodated in these rules, or for which the existing rules seem especially unfair.
8b. | Organizers reserve the right to exclude anyone from the competition that they feel is taking the piss (e.g. if someone is racist or offensive to others).
8c. | Anyone requesting to be removed from the game (via e-mail only) will be erased from all weeks for the season, and point adjustments will not be made for other players.
8d. | In the case of disputes, organizers may choose to consult opinions of the field, or may not, but their judgment will be final. |
